Wool diaper covers are the only diaper covers that are composed of all natural, antifungal, wear-resistant fibers. Wool is soft, breathable, and absorbent, keeping baby cool in the summer months and warm in the winter months.
Though wool cloth diaper covers are NOT waterproof, they are water-resistant and untreated wool can absorb more than three times its weight in moisture before it begins to feel wet; an awesome attribute for a cloth diaper cover most loved for effective night time diapering.
Although not as trim as waterproof diaper covers, wool diaper covers allow for air circulation to maintains baby's natural body temperature, reducing the heat that triggers bacterial growth, which in turn leads to diaper rashes.
This type of diaper cover does require a bit more attention when it comes to washing, drying and lanolizing - we recommend a few wool care products like Eucalan Wool Wash. It also helps to rotate a minimum of three diaper covers or wool diaper wraps in your cloth diaper cover stash.
Normal Daily Use Care Instructions For Wool Diaper Covers:
It is recommended that each wool soaker be washed and lanolized prior to use for optimal performance. After the initial priming, these cloth diaper covers will need only be lanolized occasionally.
When in use, they do not need to be washed immediately if they become damp. The natural oil in wool keeps the diaper covers water resistant and cleans them naturally. Simply air dry and re-use. Should they get soiled, they will need to be hand-washed in tepid water using a mild wool wash such as "Eucalan No-rinse Wool Wash". Allow the wool cover to soak for 15 minutes. Then gently squeeze out most of the moisture. Do not wring or twist the wool cover. To remove excess water roll the wool cover in-between two dry, clean towels and then lay the wool cover flat to dry.
To occasionally lanolize your wool soaker:
Simply add ¼ tsp of lanolin to 1 cup of water and melt it in the microwave. Combine the melted lanoline and some "Eucalan No-rinse Wool Wash" in a pail or a sink of tepid water, stirring the lanoline/Eucalan mixture well. Add the wool soaker, allowing it to soak for 15 minutes. Then gently squeeze most of the moisture out. Do not wring or twist the wool cover. To remove excess water, roll the wool cover between two dry, clean towels and then lay the wool cover flat to dry.
